This provides an opportunity for those working in various fields to serve as jawans and officers. This is a Tour of Duty (TOD) project that allows young people in India to serve in the military for three years.

The Indian Army is also considering recruiting on deputation for up to seven years. They are recruited from the paramilitary forces and the Central Police Force and can return to their parent institutions after a certain period of time.

The Army's new project is aimed at introducing military life to the country's youth and inculcating more patriotism in them. As it is a short term recruitment, there is no compromise on the criteria. The main criteria are age and physical fitness.

1000 jawans and 100 officers will be selected in the first phase. A military spokesman said they would be recruited at the border and front lines and would not be relieved of their jobs.

The new scheme is aimed at attracting young people who do not want to serve in the military but who want to learn about military life. Under the current short service commission system, tenure holders can extend the term to 14 years.

5.12 crore for training, salary and other expenses of an officer retiring within 10 years. If it is 14 years, the cost is 6.83. But under the new scheme, the cost to a soldier retiring after three years is around Rs 80-85 lakh. According to the authorities, selecting 1000 soldiers would save Rs 11,000 crore.

In addition, young people receiving military training will gain confidence, teamwork, responsibility, stress management, and social capacity. This will help them to find new job opportunities.

The military also points out that the corporate world considers 26-27 year olds who have received military training more than ordinary young people aged 22-23.
